Product detailed description

Tanzaku-Tou folding Japanese knife with brass handle

Tanzaku-Tou is a precisely crafted, handmade tool of the higonokami type, combining tradition and modern safety features. The blade, in a traditional Japanese style, is made from premium stainless AUS-8 steel, known for its ability to hold an edge and resistance to corrosion. For maximum safety during use, the knife is equipped with a liner-lock mechanism that prevents accidental closing of the blade. The elegant handle with a practical clip is made of brass, which develops a unique patina over time. This stylish tool comes in a presentable wooden box.

The knives originate from the workshop of Kanetsune - Kitasho Co., Ltd. in the renowned city of Seki, Japan. The manufactory, founded in 1964, is globally recognized for its high quality standards and craftsmanship.

Maintenance and care rules

  • •Never wash the knife in the dishwasher.
  • •For best quality, wash the knife by hand and dry it immediately.
  • •Do not use the knife as a lever and avoid twisting it.
  • •Do not use the knife as a screwdriver or a substitute for other tools.
  • •Protect the knife from falls and strong impacts.

Sharpening a Japanese knife

For a perfect edge, we recommend using diamond and water sharpening stones. If you are unsure of your abilities, we will gladly sharpen the knife for you individually. We also regularly organize knife sharpening courses. Improper sharpening can cause irreversible damage to the material.

Blade Care:

Particles adhering to the blade surface from the surroundings can cause oxidation, which manifests as rust-like spots. This is not a defect of the steel. For removal, common methods include baking soda with a little water and an old cork.

Notice

Japanese precision and traditional materials

Kanetsune production is defined by the use of premium Japanese steels and natural materials that give each knife its unique character and spirit. The key pillars of the brand include:

  • Traditional carbon steels: Kanetsune expertly works with steels such as Blue Steel (Aogami) and White Steel (Shirogami), known for their extreme sharpness and ease of sharpening.
  • Damascus layering technique: Many models feature multi-layer construction, enhancing blade durability while creating stunning visual patterns.
  • Natural handle materials: Traditional woods such as magnolia or oak, as well as ray skin-wrapped handles, provide an authentic feel and excellent ergonomics.

From kitchen precision to demanding outdoor use

The Kanetsune Seki portfolio bridges two worlds. On one side, it offers high-end kitchen knives that deliver exceptional precision in food preparation. On the other, their outdoor and hunting knives are inspired by traditional Japanese tools designed for survival in the wild. These knives are built to withstand demanding conditions while maintaining outstanding aesthetic value.

Why invest in a Kanetsune Seki knife?

Owning a Kanetsune knife means owning a piece of history. Unlike mass-produced products, these knives emphasize individual craftsmanship and attention to detail. Whether you choose a robust fixed blade knife for bushcraft or a precision tool for sushi preparation, you are getting a product that can last for generations with proper care.

Collector’s tip: Carbon steel knives require cleaning and treatment with blade oil after each use. This care protects the steel from corrosion and encourages the formation of a beautiful natural patina, a mark of authenticity and quality.

Explore our exclusive range of Kanetsune Seki knives and experience a tool where centuries of craftsmanship meet uncompromising performance. All models are in stock and ready for fast delivery for your next adventure or culinary creation.
