Product detailed description
Katana Shikai for tameshigiri practice, folded steel AISI 1075
The Shikai sword is a top-tier tool for advanced students of Japanese sword arts and discerning collectors. The blade is hand-forged from folded AISI 1075 steel, which, thanks to thousands of layers, acquires a unique texture. The traditional differential hardening method has created a real and clearly visible Choji-type hamon (clover pattern) on the edge, which seamlessly transitions through the boshi to the sword's tip. With a hardness of 52 HRC and a full Fulltang construction, this model is ideal for the discipline of tameshigiri – cutting tatami mats or bamboo. The blade is handcrafted from folded AISI 1075 steel, which, thanks to thousands of layers, acquires a unique texture. The traditional method of differential hardening has created a real and clearly visible Choji-type hamon (cloud pattern) on the edge, which smoothly transitions through the boshi to the tip of the sword. The shinogi-zukuri blade geometry and specific curvature (Sori) are optimized for achieving the cleanest possible cut. A unique element of the Shikai sword is its saya (scabbard), which is made of hardwood and completely covered with polished stingray skin. The fittings such as Koiguchi, Kojiri, and Kurigata are made of genuine buffalo horn, which enhances durability and aesthetic value. This model can be combined into an aesthetic set with the Wakizashi Shikai.
