Product detailed description

Tachi-katana Aka Yami – Red Darkness

Aka Yami embodies harmony and the flow of life

The Tachi-katana Aka Yami is an exceptional fusion of a traditional blade shape and a richly decorated style inspired by Japanese history. Clean lines and precise details reflect masterful craftsmanship that pays homage to the samurai spirit and culture.

T-10 Steel Blade – Strength and the Art of Tempering

The blade is forged from T-10 carbon steel, known for its extreme hardness and edge retention. The distinctive Kobushi Choji Hamon resembles clove buds or a clenched fist and symbolizes masterful differential hardening using clay. The blade without bo-hi groove was hand-polished with hazuya stone to achieve a mirror finish and maximum sharpness.
The curvature in the Chūzori style (Sori 2.0 cm) is designed for clean and smooth cuts, allowing for easy slicing through tatami or bamboo during tameshigiri. The Full Tang construction guarantees high strength.

Traditional components and symbolism

The Habaki made of polished copper alloy ensures a stable fit of the blade in the scabbard. The brass Tsuba (guard) with a motif of raised waves forms an elegant hand protection and ensures ideal balance of the sword. Every detail has been designed with an emphasis on functionality and aesthetic value.

Handle (Tsuka) and Scabbard (Saya)

The handle is made of a wooden core covered with genuine rayskin (samegawa) with a red cotton wrap hineri-maki. Beneath the wrap are brass menuki in the shape of sea waves, symbolizing samurai composure. TheSaya (scabbard) is made of hardwood with a glossy red lacquer and metal ornaments nansayathat match the color of the handle.

Reasons for warranty denial - improper use
  • Intended exclusively for traditional tameshigiri (test cutting) techniques on tatami mats.
  • Unsuitable for cutting branches, trees, and bushes (use axes).
  • Avoid direct contact with other metal to prevent blade damage.
  • Keep the sword in its Saya (scabbard) and do not handle it openly in public.
  • After use, clean and oil the blade; T-10 steel requires regular care against corrosion.
  • Do not store in a humid environment, such as basements or conservatories.
