Crafted replica Sunnobi tanto Aikuchi, folded steel AISI 1075, Nagasa 34.4 cm

This hand-forged replica of a Sunnobi tanto represents a top-class example of swordsmithing from the Nambokuchō period. The blade, made of folded steel AISI 1075, was folded 11 times during forging, creating a unique structure of 2048 layers (hada). The exceptional element is the geometry of the Naginata Naoshi Zukuri, which derives from the shape of halaparten (naginata) blades adapted for use in a short sword. In the final phase, the blade was hand-polished with a hazuya stone to achieve a precise edge. The distinctive Gunome Hamon line is formed by traditional methods of partial clay hardening.

The Sunnobi tanto, also known as ko-wakizashi, was created by extending the length of a standard tanto. This Aikuchi model (without a guard) excels in its clean lines and elegance. Both the handle and the scabbard are covered with genuine stingray skin (Samegawa) with a precise lacquered nuri zamé finish. The fittings are decorated with a kiku chrysanthemum motif, a symbol of long life, and complemented by a sageo braid in ivory color. Thanks to the oroshi mune spine, this knife is perfectly balanced and designed for precise cutting tests tameshigiri.
