Product detailed description

tea set Longquan Celadon - Milky Green Wave

The intoxicating aroma of tea will take you far beyond the horizons and the experience will fascinate you completely. Let's go to a faraway land where this fragile beauty has its origin and, above all, its unsurpassed originality. Here we will learn that this ritual of preparing and drinking tea has its own rules that will give your moment of relaxation an unforgettable experience.

The city of Longquan in China's coastal Zhejian province is famous for its Seladong pottery and the traditional firing technology that gives it its distinctive green glaze. A glaze composed of purple-gold clay and a mixture of burnt feldspar, limestone, quartz and vegetable ash. It is prepared according to recipes that have often been handed down in families for many generations. The glaze is applied to the fired stoneware vessel, which is then fired again in a repeated cycle. It is a minimum of six stages of heating and cooling, where the exact temperature matters - high or insufficient temperature will completely spoil the final effect. Experienced Seladon artists carefully check each stage with a thermometer and by observing the colour of the flame, which reaches temperatures of up to around 1310º C. The final product can come in one of two styles: the "older brother" seladon has a crackled finish, while the "younger brother" has a dense, lavender-grey and green hue. With a basic jade green colour, the seladon fired by Longquan's family-run businesses is prized as master-quality art that can also serve as a home jewel. Longquan Celadon is a proud symbol of the cultural heritage of the artisans, their city and the Chinese nation.

The tea sea is an essential piece of crockery for every tea lover. If you're just getting into the world of teas, get acquainted. It is beautiful to look at and also serves for pouring water from the zero infusions as well as for heating teapots and cups during tea ceremonies.

The tea sea is a perforated mat used for the Gongfu cha tea ceremony, but it can just as well replace a regular tea serving tray, consisting of two tiers: the top called the surface and the bottom (container) to catch the water. The level is the part on which the tea utensils are laid out and contains several holes for the water to drain, these holes often form a pattern. The bottom is the area for catching the water used to rinse/heat the tea utensils, to zero the infusion and also to catch the water that we spill in various ways throughout the tea encounter.
