Samurai Wakizashi
Wakizashi is a traditional Japanese short sword that served as an essential companion to the main samurai sword – the katana. With a blade length between 30 and 60 cm, it was perfectly suited for situations where a longer sword was impractical. The wakizashi was considered a guardian of honor, and unlike the katana, samurai rarely set it aside.
Samurai wore this sword tucked behind the kaku-obi belt with the edge facing upward, allowing for a quick response in any situation. Together with the katana, the wakizashi formed the famous Daishō set, which symbolized the social status of the samurai class. While the katana dominated open spaces, the wakizashi excelled in interiors and confined environments.
