The head is composed of one piece of carbon steel. If you look closely at the axe head, you can see the oil on it. This is a protective coating that has been applied for transport and will remove itself over time. The head of the axe is also decorated with several Japanese characters that look a bit mysterious. On both sides of the axe head you will find stripes. They are striking and also have a specific meaning. The seven stripes represent the eight mountains, but the eighth mountain is not mentioned because it can bring bad luck.
The handle is straight and made of Japanese white oak. Please note: this wooden handle has not been given a final treatment. To keep the axe in good shape, we recommend painting it with varnish or stain.
Mizuno Seisakujo axes are handmade in Sanjo, Japan, based on the Japanese legend of Mizuno-San. They have unique and traditional designs that come from different regions of Japan. Today the axes are made by master blacksmith Isao Mizuno and his sons. The forging of Japanese axes follows the traditional tried and tested techniques of yesteryear.
