Product detailed description

The exclusive model of the DELLINGER Melting Rain CPM S90V Flipper offers maximum cutting performance. For the production of this closing knife, the most modern and highest quality materials currently available have been used. Not just an ordinary closing knife, the Melting Rain flipper is a knife with a completely refined look and feel. The "TANTO" style blade is made of excellent CPM S90V powder steel, which reaches a hardness of 65 HRC and is very resistant to wear and damage. The blade is housed in ceramic bearings that allow for lightning-fast reaction and opening of the knife. The blade is made of TIMASCUS (titanium damascus) and carbon. The DELLINGER Melting Rain CPM S90V Flipper is a massive tactical knife dressed in a gentleman's coat.

The Melting Rain will catch your eye at first sight - the retailer's website says it was made using "the most advanced and highest quality materials currently available". Let's start with the shanks, which are two-thirds carbon. It is the man-made material of the future, which among those interested in luxury knives is increasingly "competing" with rare woods or stabilized mammoth stools. Carbon is extremely durable and most often replaces steel where weight is saved, but the use of plastics is not an option. the "black miracle" also boasts chemical and heat resistance, structural strength or rigidity, and is non-magnetic. The carbon used in Dellinger's closure is similar in type to Forged Carbon Fibre: this form of polished carbon fibre first appeared in Lamborghini supercars and has found its way into lifestyle accessories thanks to its interesting appearance. When moving in sunlight or artificial light, it casts unusual reflections and gives the impression of looking at a kind of "stone river". Unlike other types of carbon, you will not see individual fibres in its structure, but shiny islands alternating with matt surfaces. And it's not just for show - this material is many times stronger than steel! The last third of the barrel is another high-end material: damascus titanium. Timascus is made from multiple titanium alloys that are welded under high pressure, plus an inert gas atmosphere. The finished ingot is further shaped and polished, which is not something for ordinary home forges, given the reputed unyielding nature of this metal. But the result is again extraordinary - the blue-purple metal of the Melting Rain looks like it has been dipped in an oil bath, and the fine texture contrasts beautifully with the carbon part. In the case of Timascu, you don't have to worry about the classic disadvantages of steel, which includes total resistance to corrosion. As you can probably guess, both materials are also almost impossible to scratch or rub, which was clearly demonstrated during the camp work in the Jeseníky Mountains. Let's also take a look at the blade of the exclusive knife, which is made of Swedish CPM S90V powder steel that reaches a hardness of 65 HRC. This value corresponds, for example, to high-strength bolts used in the automotive or aerospace industry. When cutting plastic, spruce, and even oak inserts, it turned out that the Dellingeru blade with a height of only 0.5 mm does not tend to crack - but in this case it is "obligatory" to reach for high-quality water stones. Ordinary carborundum won't do much with an extra durable blade. The designers have also literally worked on its shape - although the seller's website talks about a closing tang, I personally lean more towards a spey point type blade. Historically, it is a one-way tool that was used to castrate domestic animals. The blade is curved, pointing upwards at the front and meeting a short blunt area at the tip, emerging from a straight spine - the tanto, on the other hand, is sharp at the tip to pierce an opponent's clothing or even armour. A knife with a spey point blade is more like a classic razor. And it cuts that way too! I was comfortable opening packages with the closure because the blunt blade face did not damage the contents. Slicing a tire was a matter of a moment, like cutting an old phone book in half. Several hunters also praised the knife: it can skin a rabbit, a deer or a boar without the risk of piercing the skin. Chefs have also joined in - the extra-hard blade does not stop cartilage or bone and the cut meat does not stick to the blade. The center of the massive bolt is located at the transition point between the timasca and carbon shanks, so it does not fall on the blade and is easy to handle even when carving tiny details. The unprecedented weight of 270 g is both a plus and a minus - those who do not want to know about their "édécéček" when wearing it should look for another piece. On the other hand, fans of adult steel closures will be thrilled - thanks to its considerable weight, the knife can also turn into a cleaver or a miniature machete that cuts down trees and halves ordinary boards without question. The back of the blade didn't get non-slip grooves, but that didn't bother me while working. The hard Swedish steel can withstand some hammer blows (after the rubber one, the classic one took over) without leaving the slightest trace. The opening of the blade, which is mounted on ceramic bearings, is also pleasant - just press the top flipper (it also works as a small guard) and you will hear a good metallic click, which accompanies the activation of the liner lock, fully hidden under the blade. If you are as interested in the black and blue beauty from Dellingeras I am, don't hesitate to buy it. The company is offering it in a limited number of 100 units, which will close their production for good.
