This blade is crafted from folded AISI 1075 steel, which has been folded 11 times during forging, resulting in 2048 layers. This process enhances both the blade's flexibility and hardness, creating a visible wavy grain pattern on its surface. The production involves 14 demanding processes, culminating in final hand-polishing with a hazuya stone, which achieves razor-sharpness and a mirror-like finish on the edge. The distinct, real Choji Hamon is formed using traditional hardening methods.
Shirasaya (meaning “white scabbard”) historically served for the careful storage of the blade during peacetime. At the end of the 19th century, when the sale and carrying of swords were banned in Japan, this discreet design (resembling a wooden stick or bamboo) allowed the katana to be carried unnoticed. This katana in the Take (bamboo) design combines historical discretion with uncompromising functionality.
The blade tip is shaped in the shinogi-zukuri style and chu kissaki with a real Diamond-Shaped Yokote. The Sori (2.2 cm) curve is designed to achieve the cleanest cuts during tameshigiri. Thanks to its Full Tang construction and high steel hardness, the sword easily cuts through tatami, straw mats, and bamboo.
